What is the difference between Medical and Recreational Cannabis?

Become a member of Curative Care & save money when you purchase Cannabis!

Purchasing Medical Vs Recreational

As a medical user, you have Access to an increasing number of advantages such as:

  • Competitive prices as a medical user versus a recreational user

  • able to Claim your medical cannabis on your taxes versus a recreational user

  • An increased availability on a range of products for medical users versus a recreational user

  • your rights as a medical user of cannabis versus a recreational user

  • Removal of the 30-day limitation period for buying cannabis from a federally licensed seller (to ensure no break in a patient's supply)

Public possession limits remain the same for authorized patients who are registered with a federally licensed seller or with Health Canada:

    • The lesser of 150 grams or a 30-day supply of dried cannabis (or the equivalent in cannabis product) in addition to the 30 grams allowed for non-medical purposes

Grow your own Cannabis as a medical user

Under the new regulations, patients continue to be able to register with Health Canada to produce their own cannabis or designate someone to produce it for them. These include improvements and benefits such as:

  • cultivation of medical cannabis plants based on the amount of grams prescribed versus the 4 plant maximum per household rule in certain provinces as a recreational user

  • Able to store a higher amount of Cannabis

  • The effective date on the registration document is the day it is issued, rather than the day the medical document was signed by the health care provider

  • The registration remains valid until a renewal decision has been made, if Health Canada has received a renewal application before your certificate expires
